The Military Order of the Purple Heart
SOME GAVE ALL, ALL GAVE SOME

For Immediate Release

Springfield, VA - February 23, 2011

As National Director of Public Relations for the Military Order of the Purple Heart, Retired Lieutenant Colonel John Bircher, keeps a busy travelling schedule letting people know what the group does

A retired Army colonel's days are full as he travels to congressional hearings, stand downs of homeless veterans, job fairs, awards ceremonies, and other events as national public relations director and the official spokesman for the Military Order of the Purple Heart.

John E. Bircher III of Lady Lake is one of 45,000 Purple Heart recipients who are members of the nation's smallest veterans organization. All of them have received the medal for wounds suffered in combat at the hands of the enemy.

"To me, the Purple Heart symbolizes the willingness of our servicemen and women, not just me personally, to lay down their life in the defense of our country," Bircher said. "It is a symbol that freedom is not really free, but comes at the price of life, or at least the loss of blood by those who are willing to pay the ultimate sacrifice to protect the freedoms we all enjoy."
