For Immediate Release

West Virginia - March 8, 2012

Patriot James McCormick of New Haven, a retired army captain and veteran of Iraq and Afghanistan, was recently named a finalist for the Citizen Service Before Self award by the Congressional Medal of Honor Foundation.  Patriot McCormick is a member of the MOPH in New Haven, WV.  These awards will be presented on Friday, March 23, in conjunction with National Medal of Honor Day, at the Tomb of the Unknowns at Arlington Cemetery in Washington D.C.

Last year, Patriot McCormick sent a proposal to state legislators asking that one day in August be made “West Virginia Purple Heart Day.” Governor Earl Ray Tomblin took McCormick’s request one step further and made the month of August “West Virginia Purple Heart Month.”
