Patriot Joe Houle Recognized for Exceptional Contributions to the Community

The city of Jacksonville, North Carolina Chamber of Commerce recently recognized Patriot Joe Houle, Commander of Beirut Memorial Chapter 642, MOPH,  for his exceptional civic contributions.

During the luncheon the chamber  presented retired Marine Sgt. Maj. Joe Houle, commander of the Beirut Memorial Chapter of the Military Order of the Purple Heart and director of operations for the Museum of the Marine, with the Civic Honor Award.

Bob Gaskins, who received the award for 2008, said Houle’s dedication and service in the county and to the welfare of other military vets earned him the award.

Houle said he was “numb” after receiving the award.

“I don’t do work in the community for recognition. I do the work in the community because I love taking care of people,” he said. “To be honored by the group of people that I live with and support — to me there’s no greater honor because I always believe in others before oneself.”
