For Immediate Release

Washington DC, May 5, 2010

Military Order of the Purple Heart Salutes President Obama and the Congress for the Caregivers and Veterans Omnibus Health Care Act

On behalf of all veterans, and especially those wounded warriors and the families who dedicate their lives to their care, The Military Order of the Purple Heart wishes to thank the Congress for passage of the Caregivers and Veterans Omnibus Health Care Act; and to thank President Obama for signing the act into law today.

By taking this action, President Obama has demonstrated his commitment to taking care of those military veterans who have done so much to defend the freedoms all Americans enjoy.  This is but one step in an all out effort to ensure our veterans receive the health care to which they are entitled and have earned.  In addition to providing unprecedented support for veteran caregivers that will provide training, financial assistance, and improved respite service, the new law also greatly improves health care for our Nation’s women veterans, expands the mental health services provided by the Department of Veterans Affairs, and expands supportive services for homeless veterans.

The Military Order of the Purple Heart (MOPH) is unique among Veteran Service Organizations in that all its members were wounded in combat. For this sacrifice, they were awarded the Purple Heart Medal. With grants from the MOPH Service Foundation, the MOPH and its Ladies Auxiliary promote Patriotism, Fraternalism, and the Preservation of America's Military History. Most importantly, they provide comfort and assistance to al, l Veterans and their families, especially those requiring claims assistance with the VA, those who are homeless, and those requiring employment assistance.  MOPH volunteers provide assistance to Hospitalized veterans at VA sites and State Veterans Homes.
